Young Europeans’ Seminar: “Climate Justice – more than words“
Why? After the disappointing results of Copenhagen and Cancun we see an urgent need to push for more effort in the reduction of greenhouse gas-emissions. We want to stop climate change. That is why we demand much stronger and legally-binding emission reduction commitments.
Dealing with global warming is not only a question of economics, industry and numbers. It is also a question of climate justice – including social justice inside and between states, fair distribution of resources and atmospheric space, supporting people suffering from global warming, protecting biodiversity, and changing our livestyle, minds and society, …
To build a position on this and to influence the political discussion at the UNFCCC process, in the EU, and on the
local level, we invite you to join: „Climate Justice – more than words!“
What? Young climate activists from the Young Friends of the Earth network and others meet for 8 days full of discussion, exchange, method sharing, networking and ACTION!
We want to motivate ourselves, more young people, as well as local and EU politicians to stand up for climate justice. Therefore we will get input from experts and testimonies from affected regions. We will exchange our views with decision makers at the conference and on the local and EU-level. We will take action at the conference and in the follow-up at the European Council on Energy and Climate and the UN-conference in Durban/South Africa in December.
Where? The event takes place at Jugendakademie Walberberg, Bonn.
When? June 10th to 18th 2011
Further actions and mobilisation in October (EU-Council on Energy and Climate) and December (Conference in Durban)
How? Accommodation and vegan/vegetarian food is inclusive. Travel costs probably can be reimbursed, if you travel by an environmentally friendly method (except by airplane). The seminar is funded by the EU Youth in Action-Program as a „Project of participative democracy“.
Participants’ fee: 10 €
Who? 40 participants from different European regions. Age: Up to 27 years.
