E-mobility: colonial continuity under the excuse of saving the planet

Datum: 17.06.2021, 18:00-20:00
Ort: online, maximal 40 Personen
Anmerkungen: der Workshop findet auf Englisch statt

The German government and automobile industries are investing billions into e-mobility. They are selling a new imaginary that will bring a future of zero emissions and free of pollution through clean energy, while hiding extractivism, labor exploitation, and environmental deregulation in the countries where raw materials are extracted. The price of “greener” ways of life in the Global North is being paid by the territories and communities of the Global South. With this, colonial dynamics continue to be reproduced under the excuse of decarbonizing the economy and therefore solving the climate crisis.

But what are the colonial traces left by electromobility? What are our desires and ideas about the future of urban and rural mobilities? What are the alternatives proposed by voices from the Global South?

Dante from Locals United and Juan Donoso from Formando Rutas (Shaping Pathways) will be working in a two hour workshop with you to explore these big questions through short videos and try to gather solutions and radical alternatives in the context of the “Just Mobility” debate, finding for alternatives to (re)think of new and old climate solutions that are critical but propositional at the same time. The workshop will be held in English. Feel free to join!
